Labour Of Love - Pregnancy & Birthing Services Ballarat

About Me

I am a married mother of four beautiful children. Shaun 14, Louise 10, Ben 5 and Josh 4.  As a mother of four I have experienced a lot of the variations that natural labour can bring.

My interest in becoming a child birth attendant began after I myself hired a doula to attend the birth of my fourth child. I found it invaluable having the extra guidance and support of a professional who actually visited my home throughout my pregnancy.

My doula and I took steps to personalise my birthing experience, allowing me to embrace my pregnancy and feel confident in my body, to feel relaxed and safe, which gave my son a smoother transition into this world.
This empowering experience has led me to wanting to help other women by becoming a Doula myself.

From this experience I realized how important having this added support was and wondered why this support wasn’t offered to all women who are having babies. I felt passionate that I to would love to make a difference to other women who were about to have their own babies.

I feel that by offering informational, physical and emotional support to a woman who is pregnant is paramount to her whole pregnancy journey right through to her birthing experience and beyond.  I also believe knowledgeis power.

I love what I do and I am happy to be out there empowering women about there bodies with their pregnancies and births.  I have now been assisting women since early 2009 after doing my doula training through Ballarat Body Wise Birth Services.

A doula is a wonderful contribution to your support team during such an emotional and exciting time in your life.  As a mother of four I understand that pregnancy and labour is a very private time in life, and that choosing a support person to be there during this time is a very personal decision for the individuals and couples alike.

My role is to support not only the birthing mother but also those who are there to support and share this joyful time. Fathers also benefit greatly from having a doula present at the birth of their child. As a doula I will be there to emotionally support and help fathers and any other support person who is there to share this special moment in a new parents life

I believe in creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere where a woman can feel relaxed and her natural instincts can take her into her primal self where she shall labour most effectively. All women have the right to birth in the way in which they feel most relaxed, as a doula I will support this environment and offer alternative techniques to help stimulate the primal area of the brain, this is the part of the brain which controls the chemicals in the body to stimulate labour and contractions of the uterus.

As a doula I understand the importance of the role of the brain, the importance of the environment surrounding a labouring woman and how this all affects the outcome of the delivery of the child.
I provide and share informaton to the expectant couples, this assists the expectant parent/s to make their decisions when it comes to the birth of their baby.

I also understand that trust and respect are very important when it comes to my position as a doula, I understand the importance of confidentiality and this is a priority for me when it comes to each client.
